The New CNA’s Survival Checklist

If you have considered joining the medical profession as a CNA, you must go through the training and certification examination to obtain work license. The medical training provides you a thorough outlook on your daily responsibilities and patient care techniques. However, you need to inculcate some additional qualities and habits in order to become successful certified nursing assistant. CNA training does not provide you guidance on these points.

Therefore, you have to learn from your own experiences when you join as an entry level nursing assistant. Mentioned below is a checklist for the qualities that you need to adopt as a newly joined certified nursing aide:

  • Keep revising your knowledge: As a fresher, you may not be having mastery over all the skills and abilities that have been taught to you in the CNA certification course. Thus, it is advisable to revise you knowledge with the help of books and notes. You can also carry a small handbook while serving on duty.

  • Think logically about your actions: It is important to perform your responsibilities in a perfect manner. You must be able to think about logical and practical solutions for the problems that you are facing on duty. If you are confused about any action or technique, then you can take help from the trainers or any seniors.

  • Do not provide misguiding information: As a CNA, you have to encounter a lot of questions from patients. If you possess correct data, then you can assist them with it. However, if you are not sure about any details, then do not provide wrong information.

  • Carry the necessary equipments with you: Do not forget to carry all the essentials like stethoscope, hand-cleaner and other tools, which you would need to use while performing your duties. You should not be searching for these tools at the time of emergency.

  • Take guidance from seniors: It is possible that you find some patients difficult to handle with. At such times, do not hesitate to take advice from the senior nurses or medical staff for managing such residents.

CNA have to keep their knowledge and skills updated in order to survive in the fierce competition in the medical industry. They can acquire some additional skills to prove themselves as an efficient nursing professional.
